Parts of the Altiplano plateau in Chile free of mines and explosives

In 1997 Chile signed the Ottawa Charter to eliminate all mines in Chile. Immediately after its ratification, the clearing of the mines in Chile began in 2001.

Today, after more than 18 years of hard work under difficult conditions, a large area of the Altiplano plateau was declared mine-free and handed over to the local population. Since the work was carried out with VALLON Metal detectors models VMH3/VMH3CS we had the opportunity to interview the head of the Chilean Demining Commission (SECNAD), Coronel Juan López Demuth, and to learn more about his experiences with the VALLON detectors.

The full interview (in Spanish) can be read here.
