Humanitarian demining in Ecuador: VALLON conducts large-scale training mission
Under the leadership of the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) and the Humanitarian Demining Training Center (HDTC), a three-week training program for specialized forces of the Ecuadorian Army took place in Quito. Over 40 soldiers from BE-68 "Cotopaxi" were trained in the operation of modern detection technology and the proper disposal of mines and explosive ordnance. VALLON trainers conducted the training using VALLON detectors donated by the United States.
Modern Detection Technology for Ecuador
As part of the training initiative, the United States donated a comprehensive package of VALLON detection systems to the Ecuadorian Army:
- VMR3G Dual Sensor Detector
- VMX10 Large Loop
- VX1 Magnetometer
- VMH4-VS60 UXO Metal Detector
- EVA4mobile®/EVA4ALL® Data Acquisition and Analysis Software
The VALLON trainers, together with local partner Colonel Fernando Vega, instructed the participants in the operation of the various detectors and the fundamentals of data acquisition and analysis – essential tools for the systematic clearance of hazardous areas.
Strong Partners for Enhanced Security
The training mission combined the expertise of several organizations: The United States Southern Command and the Humanitarian Demining Training Center contributed their extensive experience in international mine clearance. For the Batallón de Ingenieros N° 68 "Cotopaxi," this training represents an important step in fulfilling its mission to advance humanitarian demining along the border with Peru.
From Training to Field Operations
The three-week training provided participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in using modern detection technology. The program concluded with a formal ceremony where the soldiers demonstrated their newly acquired skills.
VALLON thanks the United States Southern Command, the Humanitarian Demining Training Center, the commander of BE-68 "Cotopaxi," and all participants for the successful collaboration in this important mission.
